FAQ: FAQ

How long does each therapy session take?

I offer 50-minute sessions and 80-minute sessions.
80 minutes are especially helpful with couples as there is often a lot of ground to cover. It can also be helpful to meet for a longer session if we aren't able to meet as frequently.  Of course, all of this depends on what works for you and we will talk about a meeting plan in our first session.

How is therapy structured?

The first meeting is a get-to-know-you session. It's a chance to determine if we might work well together. It's important that you feel comfortable and safe with your therapist. We will go over what you are struggling with and what changes you'd like to see for yourself and talk about a general way to move forward. Therapy is not a linear process and the direction we head depends largely on what we are wanting to work on, your history, personality, and how we work together. All of this is an ongoing collaborative process and I look forward to working with you on what that will look like.

Do you offer sliding scale rates?

I have a set number of spots available for sliding scale based on need.  Please contact me for availability.

Do you accept insurance?

I don't accept insurance at this time. However, I can provide a receipt for out of network insurance reimbursement. I recommend calling your insurance provider to see if out of network coverage is available to you.

What techniques do you use?

I use a variety of techniques based on your presenting concerns and your personality. Sometimes this will entail talking through things in a different way, mindfulness, re-writing your narrative, relational practice, attachment based exercises, etc.
I have training in attachment theory and have completed level 2 of the PACT therapy model for couple's counseling. I have also completed some training in cognitive behavioral therapy and sex therapy.
I enjoy using Internal Family Systems theory, Attachment theory, and some Cognitive Behavioral therapy in my work with clients.
If you're someone who likes 'homework,' I can provide that as well as a way to do some therapy work at home.

Can we see you for individual therapy and couple's counseling at the same time?

I want to make sure that you get the best care possible and because of that I pay a lot of attention to bias. I typically don't see individuals and the couple at the same time. Although if we are doing couple's counseling, I will ask to see each person at least one time at the beginning as a way to hear both people out fully.

Can you prescribe medication?

I am not a medical doctor or psychiatrist and cannot prescribe medication. If this is something you are considering, I can help you find a provider.
